Located in Cartersville, the Booth Western Art Museum is the only of its kind in the southeast. Its main galleries primarily feature western artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Boasting 80,000 square foot (and an additional 30,000 square foot to be added soon), the museum is the second largest museum in Georgia. Additionally, it was named an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution in August of 2006. The museum was opened in August of 2003 and was named for Sam Booth.
The permanent galleries include: American West Gallery, Cowboy Gallery, Mythic West, the Reel West, Sagebrush Ranch, James and Carolyn Millar Presidential Gallery, and War is Hell. The temporary exhibition galleries include: Special Exhibition Gallery, Borderlands Gallery, and Theaterlands Gallery.
The museum also includes an orientation theatre that seats 60, a presentation theatre that seats 140, a cafe, a museum store and a library.
